PARIS, Jan 20, 2008 / FR/ --- In a season where sensible dressing is the strongest trend, Givenchy chose to go to rustic for Fall 2008 proposing fur-lined bomber jackets in leather or snakeskin and coats in raw hide that are also line with fur.
Trousers are pleated to give it extra volume, but tapers towards the ankle for a contemporary urban look. An interesting highlight is the belt made of rope used on the pants beltline that are rolled, giving the impression of a lumberjack turned urban male.
Formal suits are in the very conservative charcoal gray. But, in keeping with the rustic theme, Givenchy also proposed black and white plaid. Knitted pullovers and striped sweaters alternate with the more formal shirts as the undergarment for the suit jackets.
Though the collection is beautiful in its own right, it is missing its soul. The vibrancy that usually permeates on Givenchy Homme is gone. The collection obviously has a theme but it is not directional.
