MILAN, Jan 14, 2008/ FW / ---The Roberto Cavalli Men's Fall 08 collection, was all about the sophisticated man. Think James Bond/Vampire Chronicles, this season expressed dangerous self-confidence and finesse. With the few women's outfits, presented on the runway, being ultimate luxury, Cavalli made sure the men were suitable escorts.
Luxury came in the form of deep rich colors and fabrics. Velvets in royal blues, leathers in knightly blacks, and silks in armor silvers. While designs did not reflect directly on combatant attire, the clean geometric lines made a strong and aggressive elegant statement.
Jackets in the collection were all about sheen, by using different fabrics from leathers to wool blends the shines had an array of depth. Well-tailored and close fit the jackets worked well as an accentuating piece to the outfits. Straight square-end ties and sleek dress-shirts, with graphic collars, were appropriately paired with the slim jackets. Pants did not play an important role but were accentuating pieces that had classic fits with materials that reflected the jackets.
Fur played another part, in the collections luxury target. Lining jackets and collars the fur played a subtle roll, while the large impact was in the huge fur coats. Putting a man in a fur coat and still having him looking masculine is not the easiest task but Cavalli did it by going out in full force. Leopard print to deep black long fur, the coats were powerful more then anything else.
Roberto Cavalli's special guests at the show were the Spice Girls. The women band is known for their powerful portrayal of femininity. With the Fall/Winter '08 collection being all about the powerful portrayal of masculinity, Cavalli is telling men to step it up because their competition is strong.
