Romain Kremer Menswear Fall 2008: Post-apocalyptic Hope

PARIS, Jan 17, 2008 / FR / --- It all started with sounds of water drops in a venue lit in a very post-industrial manner. It developed, visually and also in the music, in a hopeful and energetic vision of after the apocalypse, when we will have to live and put bright colours in a grey daily life. Romain Kremer’s menswear collection for Fall-Winter 2008 shows the path to defeat the grim of life with fluorescent tones assembled in geometric patterns on the black frame of an acute consciousness.

It all started with black jackets and pants highlighted only by a touch of frank green on a shirt with a clergyman’s collar…. Only the eyes of the model were in that very same shade of bright supernatural green. Is he a droid made more human and dressed in softer fabrics than C3P0, or a technoid kid grown into a young adult?

Yes, there is something cartoon-like about this collection, only in a very organized garment architecture. Forget the sticky combinations of Spiderman or Batman, forget about the muscles of the Fantastic 4, think about something more Matrix oriented with more realistic proportions that actually make the pieces wearable to those who are determined to fight for a bright future.

Gradually, orange appeared first in a complete suit –with matching contact lenses of course, then white in a long coat and matching pants. Escorted by some bag meant to summon a futuristic vision of the gear used for instance in Ghostbusters, bright orange and strong green then mixed their triangles, squares and full circles on the pure white or stern black garments.

As if in an accelerator of elements, the full precise array of UV fluorescent felt pen colours were placing themselves side by side on a denim shaped pocket inlay, aligning themselves in wide contrating statements on a pants beltline or playing with their shapes on the top piece.

A jumper then integrates 3-D cones of black rubber; a matching rucksack of appliquéd geometry gives the impression of an extended back for the independent nomad in the city.

Daring, innovative, architectured, the pieces created by Romain Kremer for the season might not be exactly what you expect. They are certainly a strong proposal from a designer who has perfected proportions and who is bringing part of his vision to life. Isn’t this what we were all waiting for?

With this tentative perspective, Romain Kremer is certainly the good surprise of the day and; opening up new tracks, confirms that he is a designer who might count more and more in the future.
