PARIS, Jun 30, 2007 / FW/ --- David Caruso of CSI: Miami might be or might not be a YSL devotee, but the Spring 2008 Yves Saint Laurent menswear collection by Stefano Pilati might as well have been created for David Caruso’s character ‘Horatio Caine.’
Granted, Miami is as far from Paris as possible in terms of weather and style. But in a world where traveling is a part of life and Miami on the map as one of the stops for jetsetters, it is not really hard to imagine men dressed in YSL walking down the wide boulevards in Miami-Dade country which includes Coral Gables, where the rich and famous usually maintain either a primary or secondary residence.
Back to CSI: Miami and Horatio Caine; the character is complex as most fictional heros are, but one thing is sure, whoever is the costume designer for the show makes sure that ‘Horatio Caine’ is always well dressed. Whether he is wearing a suit and tie, or had gone more casual, there is always an air of sophistication around Horatio Caine and kindness in his voice. In short, Horatio Caine is the classic gentleman.
From the YSL menswear collection, the suits and jackets would fit him perfectly. As for the more youthful cardigans and vest, Erik Delco (played by Adam Rodriguez), who is of Cuban and Russian descent is the epitome of the man who can wear this look.
Young with a touch of seriousness, hip but never goes overboard – that’s Stefano Pilati’s message for Spring 2008. What is interesting is that Stefano Pilati actually hit it right on target for the American audience who had made CSI: Miami one of the top rated shows since its launch in 2004.
Stefano Pilati might not even watch any of the CSI series. His understanding of the characters of CSI: Miami on how they would dress is truly uncunning. It’s still a few months before the womenswear season starts. Let’s see if Stefano Pilati comes up with something that Calleigh Duquesne (played by Emily Procter), Dr. Alexx Woods (played by Khandi Alexander) and Natalia Boa Vista (played by Eva LaRue), the women of CSI: Miami, to wear.
